Ludhiana, January 18

In an eight-year-old murder case, brother of the deceased alleging police inaction met the Commissioner of Police (CP) demanding re-inquiry.

The victim’s brother claimed that the CP had assured him that the police would do justice in the case. Surinder Singh, a resident of Bonkar Dogra village, stated that his young brother Jaswant Singh, who was working as driver in a paper mill at Mannewal village was murdered by some unknown persons.

On August 25, 2010, Jaswant went to paper mill as a routine for work where the three suspects, whose names were given to the police along with other unknown persons, brutally murdered him. His body was found outside the paper mill gate in broad daylight.

Following the murder, Surinder moved a complaint against the suspects at the Ladhowal police station, but the police instead of booking suspects, registered a case against unknown persons.

Later, Surinder knocked at the door of several senior police officers to seek inclusion of name of the suspects in the FIR, but officials did not budge.

He alleged that one slipper of his brother was found inside while another was found outside the mill. Suspects had then links with some political leaders due to which police did not book them, he added.

“I requested the CP to re-open the case and order a fresh probe so that culprits could be punished,” he said.
