Ludhiana: The Division No. 5 police booked a man on the charge of raping a woman. The accused has been identified as Jugesh Kumar, a resident of Upkar Nagar. The complainant (29), a resident of Jawahar Nagar camp, told the police that in 2014 he met Jagjit Singh of Shimlapuri and expressed her wish to go abroad. Jagjit then acted as a middleman and developed her friendship with Jugesh, who was residing in the US. In February last year, the accused had come to India and he developed physical relations with her on the pretext of marrying her. Now, he left to the US without marrying her. The police launched a probe in the matter.

Shopkeeper looted at gunpoint

A shopkeeper was looted at gunpoint in Purana Bazar. The complainant, Amit Sharma of Lajpat Nagar, said on June 19, when he was alone at home, a miscreant entered the shop. He forcibly took away Rs 12,000 at the gunpoint and fled the spot. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused. TNS
