LUDHIANA: Trainees of the judo centre, run by the Punjab Sports Department, at Guru Nanak Stadium have won medals in different competitions.

Trainees of the judo centre, run by the Punjab Sports Department, at Guru Nanak Stadium have won medals in different competitions. Bavleen Kaur clinched silver medal in the below 63-kg category in the National Schools Judo Championship held in Rewa (Madhya Pradesh), recently. She also annexed gold medal in the same weight category at the Punjab State Schools Championship in Jalandhar last month.

Another trainee, Priya Sharma won gold medal in Jalandhar while Ravi and Arjun lifted silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the below 70-kg group in the Punjab Schools Championship held in Gurdaspur .

Similarly, in the 63rd Punjab Schools Inter-District Games held in Jalandhar, Alok Kumar, a trainee of the centre secured gold medal in the below 45-kg category, Arjun won silver in the below 60-kg section while Prabhrai Singh and Varun Sharma bagged bronze medal in the below 55-kg and below 40-kg categories, respectively. Besides, Ludhiana district finished as overall runners up in Jalandhar.

Two other trainees of the centre, Diksha and Himanshi Bains wrapped up silver and bronze medal in the below 35-kg and below 40-kg weight groups, respectively, in the Under-17 group in the Punjab State Games, held from November 26 to 28 in Amritsar.

A team of coaches comprising Kishore Kumar, Parveen Thakur and Navdeep Jindal, who imparts training at the centre expressed satisfaction over trainees’ performance. With the passage of time and exposure, these judokas would be ready to don the national colours in international competitions, they opined.
