Ludhiana, Gurdaspur, Sangrur, Moga, Ropar script 2 wins each

LUDHIANA: Hosts Ludhiana, besides Gurdaspur, Sangrur, Moga and Ropar districts along with Kairon wing scripted two wins each in the girls Under-19 section on the opening day of the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Handball Championship, which started at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), here on Thursday.

Hosts Ludhiana, besides Gurdaspur, Sangrur, Moga and Ropar districts along with Kairon wing scripted two wins each in the girls Under-19 section on the opening day of the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Handball Championship, which started at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), here on Thursday.

The five-day championship was inaugurated by Swaranjit Kaur, District Education Officer, (Secondary), Ludhiana, during which competition in the girls and boys U-19 sections would be held. Matches in the girls’ section will be played from November 15 to 17 whereas those in the boy’s category will be held on November 18 and 19.

Ludhiana district recorded victories against Jalandhar district and Nawanshahr, by 13-6 and 14-6, respectively, while Gurdaspur district beat Hoshiarpur 9-2 and Barnala 6-3 whereas Moga district defeated Mansa 15-2 and Mohali 13-3.

Likewise, Sangrur district outclassed Hoshiarpur 10-2 and Fatehgarh Sahib 17-1 while Ropar district drubbed Ferozepur 13-0 and Mohali 11-6.

Kairon wing girls too registered victories against Patiala by 16-6 and then over Faridkot by 21-14.

In other matches on the day one, Nawanshahr prevailed over Bathinda 8-7; Patiala pipped Muktsar 15-4; Faridkot outperformed Fazilka 13-6; Barnala outnumbered Fatehgarh Sahib 7-2; Jalandhar routed Bathinda 11-1; Fazilka blanked Muktsar 8-0 and Mansa routed Ferozepur 16-2.

Bikramjit Bhanot, Assistant Education Officer (Sports), Ludhiana, Ajit Pal Singh, Malwinder Singh, Guriqbal Singh, Makhan Singh Sahnewal and Kesar Singh were among others present at the venue today.
