Kin cremate both deceased

Ludhiana, December 11

Two days after the death of two men due to asphyxiation at Hotel Grand Marian here, their families cremated them today.

Earlier, the victims’ families had refused to cremate the bodies, seeking arrest of the hotel owner.

Deepak and Arman had been asphyxiated by poisonous gases when they went to clean a sewer in the basement of the hotel on Saturday. Besides, three people were taken ill and they were admitted to Deep Hospital.

Model Town SHO Kamaldeep Singh said both deceased were cremated after autopsy as their families had agreed to the same.

Meanwhile, director of the National Commission for SC and ST Raj Kumar Chhanena visited the hotel site today. He recorded the statements of the colleagues of deceased Deepak and Arman.

He said the case would continue against the hotel management concerned under the SC and ST Act. He further said they would make all possible efforts to provide Rs 10-lakh as compensation and a job to the kin of each deceased.

The police on Sunday had converted section in the case into culpable homicide. The police have also added the SC/ST Act to the FIR.

It was learnt that the hotel owner had offered compensation to the victims’ families. TNS
