Ludhiana, August 17

Now patients admitted to the Civil Hospital, Jagraon, will not have to run either to Moga or Ludhiana for blood in emergency as the hospital got its own blood bank.

The Civil Hospital, Jagraon, caters to patients from Jagraon, Raikot, Sidhwan Bet, Sudhar and Pakhowal village. Patients with medical emergencies and those admitted in the gynaecology ward will be provided blood free of cost, while it is yet to start the facility of blood components.

“Earlier, patients or their attendants had to rush to either Moga or Ludhiana for arranging blood and it used to waste lot of precious time, especially during medical emergencies.

Now, the facility will be provided at the hospital and we have a separate block for blood bank which has six rooms,” said Dr Sukhjivan Kakkar, SMO of the Civil Hospital, Jagraon. Blood is being arranged through voluntary donors and blood donation camps are also being organised.

Gurpal Singh, a resident of Sudhar, said, “It is a good step taken by the Health Department as during emergencies, patients had to rush to nearby cities for procuring blood.”

Blood to be provided free of cost

Blood will be provided free of cost to patients with medical emergencies, pregnant women, those suffering from TB, cancer, thalassemia, HIV positive patients and beneficiaries of the Bhagat Puran Sehat Bima Yojana.
