A day after the Ludhiana Tribune carried news titled, “SHO-Sarpanch talk goes viral, CP orders probe”, the Commissioner of Police RN Dhoke today dismissed the Inspector Jarnail Singh, Meharban SHO.

Jarnail Singh was suspended by the CP two days ago for not taking action in a land-grab case. Following his suspension, phone recording of his conversation with Sarpanch of Boothgarh village Amarinder Singh Soni had gone viral. The SHO was found behaving rudely with the Sarpanch in the conversation. Instead of taking action on the Sarpanch’s complaint of illegal mining, the SHO had threatened him with lodging an FIR against him.

Taking note of the recording, the CP had asked DCP Ashwani Kapoor to probe the matter. On Kapoor’s recommendation, Dhoke today dismissed the Jarnail Singh.

The dismissal order, a copy of which is with The Tribune, states: “It has been brought to my notice that Inspector Jarnail Singh while being posted as SHO PS Meharban, Ludhiana, was not responding to information received by him against the illegal sand mining through local people and he was rather threatening them with dire consequences.

“The illegal sand mining is causing a huge financial loss to the state exchequer, and being a key enforcement police officer of the area, it was his foremost duty to check the illegal sand mining. Misconduct of non-responding to the complaints by him reveals incorrigibility and complete unfitness for the police service. His retention and continuation in service may be harmful to the interest of the state as well as the general public.

“I being the competent authority while exercising those powers conferred by Section 7 of the Police Act, 1861, read with rule 16.2 (1) of PPR and under article 311 (2) (b) of the Constitution of India hereby dismiss Inspector Jarnail from service with immediate effect.”
