Residents of the local town feel proud of an IAS officer from a native family, who has been chosen for a Special Jury Award for his outstanding services as Director of the national programme of Swachh Bharat.

A 2001 batch IAS, Dr Nipun Vinayak, has been chosen by the India Sanitation Coalition, an industry association supporting sanitation by Naina Lal Kidwai along with the Federation of India Chambers of Commerce and Industry for special recognition to government (individual) award.

Padam Vibhushan, Dr RA Mashelkar, led the special jury, which decided the nomination for strengthening national sanitation agenda under the Swachh Bharat Scheme.

The jury opined that the passion with which Dr Vinayak had forwarded the national agenda for the Swachh Bharat Mission in his ensuing role was exemplary.

“Your work has been instrumental in shaping this as a national movement,” read the communication received by the officer from the organisers.

Office-bearers and activists of various organisations led by the Municipal Council president, Suraaj Mohammad, and former president Ravinder Puri said a function would be organised to welcome and recognise Dr Vinayak, who had brought laurels to the area by bagging prestigious prizes.

Besides number of awards and citations Dr Vinayak also authored books on various subjects. “Gramodaya” published by the UNICEF India and “Beyond Sanitations” were among books considered by the jury for deciding the award.
