Hosts Ludhiana in semi-finals

LUDHIANA: Hosts Ludhiana, besides Amritsar, Jalandhar and Sangrur districts, stitched up victories to compete the semifinal line-up in the boys’ U-19 section during the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Handball Tournament at Government Model Senior Secondary School here on Sunday.

Hosts Ludhiana, besides Amritsar, Jalandhar and Sangrur districts, stitched up victories to compete the semifinal line-up in the boys’ U-19 section during the 64th Punjab State Inter-District Schools Handball Tournament at Government Model Senior Secondary School here on Sunday.

In the quarterfinals, Ludhiana scored an authentic 20-4 win over Mansa while Sangrur survived a scare before coming out victorious against Faridkot 28-26 and Amritsar won against Tarn Taran 22-6, whereas Jalandhar defeated Bathinda 30-18.

Earlier, in the day, Ludhiana routed Fatehgrh Sahib 39-1; Patiala drubbed Moga 38-9; Bathinda beat Hoshiarpur 22-20; Faridkot edged out Moga 20-9; Nawanshahr pipped Ferozepur 18-16; Sangrur outplayed Mansa 18-8; Tarn Taran beat Ferozepur 12-3; Mansa outclassed Barnala 14-4; Amritsar got the better of Mohali 11-4; Jalandhar overwhelmed Muktsar 18-5; and Amritsar beat Muktsar 22-4.

Rupinder Singh Ravi, state organiser (sports), Punjab Education Board, along with Harinder Sharma, former handball coach with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and others were present.
