Holi celebrations turn sour as landlady kills tenant

LUDHIANA: A tenant was allegedly been killed by his landlady for playing loud music at his rented accommodation on the Kartar Nagar Tibba road in the late evening on Thursday.

A tenant was allegedly been killed by his landlady for playing loud music at his rented accommodation on the Kartar Nagar Tibba road in the late evening on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Harpreet Singh (26). The deceased is survived by his wife with whom he had been married from the past two and half years.

The Tibba police arrested the landlady identified as, Manjit Kaur, on Friday evening.

As per the available information, Harpreet, who was working as driver in a factory, had been living in a rented accommodation along with his wife in the house owned by Manjit Kaur.

On Thursday evening, Harpreet had called his friends to celebrate Holi. They all were consuming liquor while playing loud music. A neighbour of the landlady complained about the loud music being played by her tenant. He requested Manjit to tell Harpreet to stop playing music as it was disturbing him and his family.

Later, when Manjit went to Harpreet’s accommodation, who was then consuming liquor with his friends and told him to lower volume of the music, he entered into heated arguments with her.

In no time, arguments took an ugly turn and the landlady’s husband brought an iron road and handed it over to her. She hit the rod on tenant’s head, who started bleeding profusely and fell unconscious.

Harpreet was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The Tibba police station SHO, Paramjit Singh, said the woman was booked under Section 302 of the IPC and arrested.

Why things went out of hand

On Thursday evening, the tenant called his friends to celebrate Holi. They all were consuming liquor while playing loud music. A neighbour of the landlady complained about the loud music being played by her tenant. The landlady told tenant  to stop playing music, but he entered into argument with her. This enraged landlady’s husband, who brought an iron rod and gave it to her. The landlady hit the iron rod on tenant’s head, who fell unconcious. The tenant was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
