Ludhiana, June 13

Under the ‘tandarust’ mission, the Health Department on Wednesday conducted checking at Jagraon and Raikot and also collected samples from there.

The health team under the supervision of District Health Officer, Dr Andesh Kang, visited the vegetable markets of Jagraon and Raikot. Fruit ripening units, cold storage units and fruit retail outlets were inspected by the team and samples of different fruits were collected by them. Samples of musk melon, mango, banana and papaya were collected from different shops.

Some of the wholesalers were found using artificial methods for ripening of fruits. The team interacted with the nearby people and shopkeepers and made them aware regarding the ill- effects of artificial ripening of fruits.

In addition to this, two ice-cream factories were also inspected at Jagraon and two samples were collected.

The team also visited the Verka milk plant on the Ferozepur Road and collected samples of cow’s milk, double toned milk and standardised milk.

All these samples have been sent to lab at Kharar for checking.
