Ludhiana, September 12

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued a notice of motion to the State of Punjab, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana, and Punjab Pollution Control Board after a city resident moved the court against creating a garbage dump or setting up of static waste compactor in and around Bhai Chattar Singh Park of Ludhiana.

The petitioner is also against the dumping of garbage under the flyover, which is located just near the park.

The petition has been filed by Abhiraj Partap Singh of Ludhiana. The next hearing is scheduled for October 29.

An advocate, Gurinderjit Singh, said, “The petitioner has sought that no garbage should be dumped under the flyover and inside or outside Bhai Chattar Singh Park. The petitioner has sought that no static waste compactor should be set up near the park.”

Shopkeepers of Scooter Market have been demanding from the civic body to remove the garbage dump located next to the shops under the flyover.

Many shopkeepers have suffered from various health problems, but the civic body has failed to ensure removal of the garbage dump under the flyover.

The MC had also proposed creating the garbage dump near Bhai Chattar Singh Park, but social activist Gurpal Singh Grewal had opposed the MC’s move.

The MC then came up with a plan to set up a static waste compactor near the park, but some residents reportedly opposed it. — TNS
