LUDHIANA: The police have booked a man for escaping from the marriage venue and later demanding Rs 3 lakh as dowry from the girl’s family. The accused has been identified as Deepak Kumar of Santokh Pura, Jalandhar. Complainant Raj Kumar of Bhamian Road told the police that the marriage of his daughter Tanu was scheduled on December 14, but the boy left without informing anyone. When he was traced, he demanded Rs 3 lakh from them to solemnise the marriage. The boy was arrested.

Travel fraud

The Daresi police have booked a woman for duping a resident of Rs 1.87 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. The accused has been identified as Jaswinder Kaur of Phase 7, Mohali. Complainant Gurmeet Singh of Atal Nagar told the police that he had given Rs 1.87 lakh to the accused and in lieu, the accused assured to arrange a visa for England, but she failed to do so. Now, she also refused to return the money. The accused is yet to be arrested.

Sewer man faints 

The Jodhewal police have booked the close aide of Congress councillor’s husband after a sewer man fainted while cleaning sewerage in Basant Vihar on his order. The accused has been identified as Jaswinder Singh. Complainant Pardeep Kumar said on December 12, he was called by the accused for cleaning the area’s sewerage along with sewer men. The accused forced him to enter the sewerage but he fainted. TNS
