Global health team visits DMCH

LUDHIANA: A seven-member global health team from William Osler Health System, Ontario, Canada ended its four-day visit to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

A seven-member global health team from William Osler Health System, Ontario, Canada ended its four-day visit to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). The visit was arranged under joint collaboration between the two institutions.

During its third such visit, the team visited the Emergency Department at DMCH and held a meeting with the nursing staff.

Vice-President, William Osler Health System, Florine Lobo, was welcomed by Prem Kumar Gupta, Secretary, Managing Society, and Dr Sandeep Puri, Principal, DMCH. Lobo said that the team learnt from practices and processes at DMCH and would incorporate the same in its system.

The visiting team’s Emergency medicine Unit comprised Dr Gurjit Bajwa, Dr Brian Klar and Christina Calvano. Its Mental Health and Addiction Unit included Dr Navin Kaicker, Navjot Mundi and Harpal Panesar.

Dr Deepak Jain, Department of Orthopedics, DMC, who coordinated the visit, said that Osler Health System catered to a large Indian population in Brampton, Canada, and the two institutions had a lot to learn from each other. The visiting team gave presentations on rational use CT scans and blood transfusion in anaemic patients.

The two institutions have also started ‘Care beyond Borders’ programme for providing medical care to Canadians visiting India. Under the program, medical record of patients from Canada is shared with doctors at DMCH before the visit to facilitate better medical care.
