The Salem Tabri police claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle lifters and arrested seven of its members. The police also recovered 10 stolen motorcycles from their possession.

During a press conference here today, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Gurpreet Singh Sikand said a tip-off was received about Mukesh Kumar and Jaskaran Singh Jassa, both residents of Phillaur, that both were running a vehicle-lifters gang. The gang was stealing vehicles, mainly two-wheelers, from the city area and selling these to their clients, the ADCP added.

Acting on the tip-off, a raid was conducted at the specific hideout of the gang members and they were nabbed with one stolen Activa scooter, the ADCP said.

During interrogation both suspects confessed that they had stolen many motorcycles in the past and sold these to Gurdev of Phillaur, Kuldeep Ram Deep of Sefabad, Vishal Kumar of Brampura Dera, Yunis Masih of Gurdaspur and Juri Khan of Phillaur, the ADCP added.

Later, after finding whereabouts of all the suspects, a raid was conducted and they were nabbed with 10 stolen motorcycles, the ADCP said.

Eleven stolen two-wheelers were recovered from the suspects. Most vehicles did not have number plates, the ADCP added.

Police remand of the suspects would be sought from the court, the ADCP added. More stolen vehicles could be recovered during further probe, the ADCP said.

Meanwhile, the Salem Tabri police also nabbed three snatchers identified as Vijay Kumar of Bazigar Dera, Jaspal Singh Johny and Jatinder Singh, both of Aman Nagar. The police recovered three mobile phones and two motorcycles from them.
