Gang of thieves busted, 3 held

The Khanna police claimed to have solved a number of theft cases and arrested three persons of an inter-district gang in this regard while the gang leader is still absconding.

The arrested have been identified as Shankar, alias Raj Kumar, a resident of Saharsa in Bihar and at present residing at Sangrur, Shiva, a resident of Dilmanpur village in Bihar and at present residing at Ludhiana, and Sachu Paswan, a resident of Kathah village in Bihar and at present residing at Ludhiana. The gang leader who is still absconding has been identified as Gajo Paswan, also from Bihar.

Khanna SSP GS Grewal said on the intervening night of October 19-20, two shops on Railway road were burgled and on the intervening night of October 25-26, another two shops on Samrala road were also burgled. The thieves had decamped with a number of items from the shops.

Cases were registered in this regard and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under Khanna SP (I) JS Cheema comprising Khanna DSP (I) Tarlochan Singh and CIA in charge Gurmel Singh was constituted. The three alleged accused were arrested from Sangrur along with a stolen motorcycle. They confessed to have struck at about a dozen shops in Khanna, apart from a shop at Samrala.

As many as 16 mobile phones, cash and other items were recovered from them. Raids are being conducted to arrest the gang leader.
