Ludhiana, May 23

Dr Yashpal Singh, Assistant Professor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, has been conferred with the “National Fellow of the Society (FNAPM)” for his contribution in the field of Livestock Production by Mehbooba Mufti, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, at the XXIV Annual Convention and National Symposium on Livestock Resources Management. The Indian Society of Animal Production and Management organised the convention at Sher-e Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology at Srinagar, Kashmir.

Dr DS Malik, HoD Livestock Production and Management (LPM), along with his team of scientists and students, attended the conference and presented the lead paper on “Climate Change: Challenges and Implementation of Livestock Production with Special Reference to Indian Scenario” and chaired the session. Abdul Ghani Kholi, Ministry of Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Jammu and Kashmir, also attended the programme.Dr Malik revealed that in recent years, an important area of concern for India is “Climate Change” to ensure food and nutritional security for the growing population. Climatic extremes and seasonal fluctuations affect the well-being of livestock, and lead to decline in production and reproduction efficiency. Thus, the sustainability of livestock system for the farmers is greatly threatened by the detrimental effects of extreme weather not only in India but globally as well. In this regard GADVASU is one of the implementing agencies of the mega project on “Towards climate resilient livestock production system in Punjab”, sanctioned by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, GOI, funded under the National Adaptation Fund on Climate Change (NAFCC) to Punjab to find a solution to provide suitable low-cost technology in terms of housing, feeding and disease control and other animal related practices under changing climatic conditions for the benefit of the farmers of Punjab.

Dr Mandeep Singla, Assistant Animal Scientist, was awarded with “Dr Bidarkar Best Oral Presentation Award” for his presentation on “Breeding Soundness Evaluation of Stall Fed Bucks using Ultrasonography”, co-authored by A L Saini and Yashpal Singh.
