Rail passengers were a harried lot, as five trains were cancelled and several others continued their erratic run.

While trains to and from Delhi were running late by half-an-hour to an hour, several other long-route trains were behind the schedule by one-and-half to nearly 13 hours, leaving passengers stranded at the boarding points.

The Railway officials said the 12331 Howrah-Jammu Himgiri Express, the 13049 Howrah-Amritsar Express, the 14674 Jaynagar-Amritsar Shaheed Express, the 15209 Saharsa-Amritsar Jansewa Express and the 15210 Amritsar-Saharsa Jansewa Express trains were cancelled for today, while the 22446 Amritsar-Kanpur Superfast Express was rescheduled for late departure by two hours.

As a result of poor visibility caused by a blanket of fog, several trains between Delhi and different destinations in Punjab, including the 12460 Swarn Shatabdi/12498 Shane-Punjab (Amritsar to New Delhi), the 14681/14682 intercity express (between Jalandhar and New Delhi) and the 12029 Swarn Shatabdi/12497 Shane-Punjab (New Delhi-Amritsar) were running late from 30 minutes to an hour.
