Ludhiana, June 25

The police have registered five cases of minor girls’ abduction at separate police stations in the past 24 hours. One of the investigating officers has maintained that barring one or two, in the other cases, girls have eloped at their own will and investigation into all cases is under way.

A case has been registered at Division Number 7 police station against Inderjit Singh, a resident of Karam Colony, Tajpur Road. Kiran Devi has complained that on June 23 at around 7 pm when she was not at home, her 16-year-old daughter was allegedly abducted by Inderjit Singh on the false promise that he would marry her. A case has been registered under Sections 363 and 366, IPC.

Mohammad Nizam, father of a six-year-old girl and resident of Ayali Khurd village, has complained that an unidentified person took along his minor daughter on a motorcycle yesterday. His wife informed him about the incident on the phone. After searching for a long time, the girl was recovered from a place but the person, who tried to kidnap her, has absconded. A case has been registered at the Haibowal police station and search is on to trace the kidnapper.

The Focal Point police have registered a case on a complaint of Satish Kumar, father of a 17-year-old girl and resident of Fauji Colony. He alleged that his minor daughter must have eloped with Balbir Singh of the same area. The complainant said his daughter had gone for sewing classes at 10 am but didn’t return.

Vijay Kumar, a resident of Sahibzada Fatejh Singh Nagar, has alleged that his 13-year-old daughter ran away with Mohit, a resident of Maha Singh Nagar, on May 29. She also took away Rs 8,000 and a bag. Though the girl came back after a few days, her father has alleged that the suspect misled his daughter into eloping with him. A case under Sections 366 and 363 of the IPC, and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been registered against Mohit at the Daba police station.

In another case registered at SBS Nagar, Hewal Ram, father of a 15-year-old girl, has alleged that her daughter was abducted by Sanjiv, a resident of Punjab Mata Nagar, on the false promise of marrying her. He said the girl went to bed on the night of June 23 and she was found nowhere in home the next day.

“In such cases, we have to rely on what parents say. At times, such complaints are lodged to settle a score. We will have to look into these cases thoroughly as minors are involved,” said a policeman.
