Farmer, uncle thrashed by group involved in sand mining

A group of people allegedly involved in illegal sand mining thrashed a farmer and his uncle at Butahari village. The accused have been identified as Istimal Mohammad, Gurpreet Singh, Sharanjit Singh, Soni Singh, Buta Singh, Rajvir Singh and their five unidentified accomplices.

Farmer Balwinder Singh (45) alleged that a group of persons were stealing sand near his fields. He alleged that the accused used to pass their vehicles from his agriculture land. He tried to stop him several times. One of the accused, Itimal Mohammad, told him that some persons wanted to meet him.

“I saw some persons stealing sand from my fields. They attacked me and threatened me to stay silent. They also thrashed my 65-year-old uncle Baldev Singh,” he added.

A case under Sections 379, 323, 148, 149, 506 of the IPC and 21 of the Mining Act has been registered against the accused. The investigation was underway. — TNS
