Ludhiana, January 22

The Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) approved a resolution for cancellation of contract of four parking sites at Bhadaur House, Feroze Gandhi Market, Mall Road and Jagraon Bridge towards Sherpur Chowk today.

Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu divulged this information after the meeting. He, however, said the firms had signed no agreement with the MC and he would bring the matter to the notice of House.

Meanwhile, questions were raised as to how these firms were allowed to run parking lots without signing an agreement with the MC.

The visitors would get no relief from overcharging as the “erring” parking contractors would keep handling the sites till further decision of MC House, sources said.

A total of 185 resolutions were presented during the meeting while the decision on nearly 100 proposals was taken. Senior Deputy Mayor Sham Sundar Malhotra said they would take decision on the remaining agenda proposals tomorrow. He said the MC would spend Rs 1.5 crore on each outer ward annually while the quota for each internal ward is Rs 1 crore.

Meanwhile, Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said they had given approval to the implementation of the

advertisement policy in the city. They passed the resolution to impose a fine from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 on those found throwing garbage collected from areas outside the city limits at the garbage dumps of the Municipal Corporation.

He said they also gave the nod to installation of the GPS system on the MC vehicles as it would help check the status of the vehicles. Besides, the F&CC approved resolutions for construction of roads and cleaning of sewers in several areas.
