Ludhiana, June 22

Farmers have begun sowing paddy in their fields. At the time of sowing, a few things should be taken care of to ensure good cultivation and to keep the fertility of the field intact.

Agriculture experts Dr S C Sharma of Krishi Vigyan Kender, Samrala, and Dr Parampal Sahota, Head, Department of Microbiology, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) said paddy seed must be modified with azorhizobium (vaccine) bacterial compost before transplantation.

Regarding the method of using azorhizobium bacterial fertilizer (per acre) for paddy, they said before planting the seed in the field, fertilizer manure (1 kilogram) should be solved in 30-litre water. Dip the roots in a solution for 45 minutes and plant it in the field soon. The bacterial envelope should be kept in a cool place. Bacterial envelope should be opened only at the time of planting. The cost of this fertiliser packet is Rs 40 per acre, which is available at the Department of Microbiology, PAU, Ludhiana, Samrala Krishi Vigyan Kendra and other centres.
