Using too much gadgets can affect the fertility of both men and women. Keeping the phone in pocket or using the laptop while keeping in lap harm both the quantity and quality of sperms. Undoubtedly, technology has made our lives comfortable and convenient, but it is also a fact that its development has caused hazardous effects to our health. Unlimited use of smartphones, computers and wireless connections has not only made us fully dependent, but are also making us sick in one way or another.

A recent study has revealed that electromagnetic radiations emanating from the smart devices and cellular towers in India are 10 times higher in comparison to other countries. Today’s technology has highly affected the fertility of both men and women. Due to these harmful radiations, a number of couples in India are becoming victim of one or another health issues related to fertility since these electronic devices are also a major cause of infertility.

Dr Sumita Sofat, infertility specialist at Sumita Sofat Hospital, said long and continuous use of electronic gadgets may harm the fertility of both men and women.

“Keeping mobile phones in the pocket and long-time use of laptop keeping it in lap harm both the quantity and quality of sperms. The problem persists as the heat and radiations emanating from these devices harm the sperm cells by reducing its size. The radiations cause harm to the DNA of a person due to which cells start losing its ability to recover on its own. When these radiations reach the sperm and egg cells, it do not only inhibit its growth but also becomes a reason for abortion,” said she.

According to Dr Sumita Sofat, one is surrounded by ocean of electromagnetic signals and thousands of signals are leaving harmful effects on the human body every second. In addition to intense effect on the fertility, these are also causing serious harm to our eyes and overall health.

She said, “Infertility is already a big disease and we should limit the use of these smartphones and other gadgets to keep ourselves healthy.”
