Punjab Agricultural University’s (PAU) Class IV Workers’ Union today joins the ongoing agitation with the PAU Employees’ Union against the authorities of the university for not fulfilling their demands.

A joint rally was held before the Thapar Hall of the university, in which a large number of employees participated, by both unions.

While addressing the gathering Manmohan Singh, general secretary of the PAU Employees’ Union, said all employees of the university were agitated due to indifferent behaviour of the Vice-Chancellor, that is why Class- IV employees have also joined them.

Baldev Singh Walia, president of the PAU Employees’ Union, said the PAU authorities in a meeting held on April 25, promised to fulfill their demands for promotions and reduction in experience of technical staff for promotion within 15 days. But even after a time lapse of five months and several meetings with the Registrar, nothing has been done, due to which there is a great resentment among employees.

Many posts of promotion as well as initial recruitments are vacant since long due to which existing staff have to work on additional seats and every employee is overburdened.

He further said if their demands were not fulfilled by tomorrow the agitation would be intensified by the next week.

The demands of the employees are promotions of non-teaching employees including Class-IV employees, reduction in period of experience for promotion of technical staff, arrear of conveyance allowance of store keepers and implementation of letters issued by the Punjab Government from time to time.
