Ludhiana, December 8

An employee of a steel unit has decamped with Rs 32 lakh given to him by one of the directors of the company. He has been absent from duty for the past more than two months.

The Sarabha Nagar police have registered a case against Manjit Singh, a resident of Bhagwan Nagar in Dholewal, under section 408 of the IPC for criminal breach of trust on a complaint of Rohit Jain, one of the directors of Sharu Industries Pvt Ltd and resident of Aggar Nagar here.

Jain told the police that Manjit had been employed with his firm for the past 10-12 years for collection of payments from the customers. He said: “On December 4, 2019, I gave Rs 32 lakh to Manjit Singh and told him to carry cash to the factory where it was needed. Manjit neither deposited the money anywhere nor made any payment on behalf of the firm out of that amount. He has gone missing since that time.”

The investigating officer, SI Lakhwinder Masih, said the case against Manjit had been registered after a preliminary investigation into the complaint which pointed towards his involvement in misappropriation of funds. — OC
