Eleven vehicle-theft cases solved, two arrested

LUDHIANA: The Basti Jodhewal police have nabbed two vehicle lifters – one of them within just 24 hours of stealing a Yamaha motorcycle (PB-EA-1607) from Bahadar Ke Road (on October 17, 2019), and in the process have cracked cases of at least 11 two-wheeler thefts from different parts of the city.

The Basti Jodhewal police have nabbed two vehicle lifters – one of them within just 24 hours of stealing a Yamaha motorcycle (PB-EA-1607) from Bahadar Ke Road (on October 17, 2019), and in the process have cracked cases of at least 11 two-wheeler thefts from different parts of the city.

Addressing a news conference, ADCP-1 Gurpreet Singh Sikand and ACP North Anil Kumar Kohli said a case of theft of Yamaha motorcycle was registered on October 17 at the Basti Jodhewal police station under Section 379 of the IPC on the complaint of Munish Kumar of Tibba Road.

In the course of investigation, Sub-Inspector Radhe Shyam apprehended Pardeep Kumar, alias Peepa, at a check post near Satsang Ghar, Kailash Nagar Road, on October 18. During interrogation, the accused named Jaspal Singh, alias Lucky, as his accomplice who was also arrested on the same day from Shimla Colony in Kailash Nagar.

According to the ADCP, on the basis of information provided by both accused, the police had recovered 11 motorcycles from different places in the city, all of which were stolen by the culprits in the past 3-4 days.

The police said as per information gathered from the accused, they had lifted three motorcycles from Rakh Bagh, two from Noorwala Road and one each from Ghumar Mandi, District Courts Complex, Tibba Road, Gehlewal and Bahdur Ke Road.

A case under Sections 379, 411 and 201 of the IPC had been registered against the duo and the arrested persons were produced in the court which remanded them to the police custody till October 22.
