Eastern Naval Command prepared for Cyclone Fani: Admiral Sunil Lanba

Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba said today that Navy was fully prepared for Cyclone Fani. “Eastern Naval Command at Vishakhapatnam is ready, all necessary measures have been taken. In coordination with the state governments of Andhra Pradesh, we are fully ready for the cyclone,” said the Navy Chief while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at GHG Khalsa Colleges Gurusar Sadhar.

Admiral Sunil Lanba also inaugurated the state-of-the-art Indoor Shooting Range at the college. He was welcomed with a guard of honour by the NCC cadets of the college.

College Director IS Singha, while introducing the chief guest as an exemplary and the most accomplished officer, added that the history had been created in the wings of this highly coveted inauguration as a celebration of the progress made by the college in 70 years of its glorious foundation.

Admiral Sunil Lanba said excellent infrastructure and the sterling achievements of the college made it an ideal institute for honing the skills and improving the lives of future nation builders. He added that this shooting range would act as a propeller for the youth of this region to pursue a career in shooting and join the defense forces.

Manjit Singh Gill, President, Governing Council, informed that it was a landmark moment when the longest serving Chairman, Chiefs of the Staff Committee, Admiral Sunil Lanba unveiled the plaque and then took aim to shoot the inaugural shot at the 10 m indoor air rifle and pistol shooting range, leaving an indelible mark of inspiration for generations of youngsters.

Registrar HS Brar said this shooting range, designed to international standards with a capacity of 25 targets by architect Ranjit P John would serve as a gateway of opportunities for the youth of Ludhiana and neighboring districts and would thus enhance the stature of the region to a world class level. Air Commodore Anjan Bhadra, SSP Jagraon Varinder Singh Brar, Captain Rajesh Nigam, Dr SS Thind, Professor Jaswant Singh, Dr Satvinder Kaur and Dr Sarabjeet Kaur also graced the occasion.
