District dominates merit list, number of students down

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana has managed to maintain its top position on the state merit list of Class X exams conducted by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).

Ludhiana has managed to maintain its top position on the state merit list of Class X exams conducted by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB). However, the number of students on the merit list from the district has dropped this year from 121 to 113.

Overall pass percentage in the state has also dipped to 57.50% compared to 72.25% last year.

Amit Yadav and Simi Kumari with 98.62% and 98.31%, respectively, have stood second and third in the academics category. Both belong to Sai Public Senior Secondary School. Amandeep Verma and Jyoti with 99.08% and 97.63%, respectively, have stood first and second in the sports category in the state. Both Verma and Jyoti are from BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point.

Students of RS Model School also managed to get good positions. Gurleen Kaur and Kajal Kumari both have stood fifth in the state in the sports category. Saba Parveen has stood sixth and Gurkawal Kaur tenth in the academic category.

Chanchal from Shri Harkrishan Sahib Public Senior Secondary School has stood seventh in the state.

Harpreet Kaur, who has also passed the exam with flying colours, said everybody was stressed as these were board exams. “I managed to secure 86 per cent marks and I am happy with my result. I have opted for commerce and want to become a banker,” she said.

Baljit Kaur, Principal of Sai Public School, whose students have scored top positions in the academics category, said she was proud of her students for bringing such a good result. “Hard work has finally paid off for them and we are happy to see our students happy,” she said.
