The plight of the women’s wing where complainants usually run from pillar to post to get justice is likely to improve if Police Commissioner RN Dhoke’s directions are well implemented.

After hearing about the slow disposal of complaints at the women cell, Dhoke has now decided to streamline the system.

In the instructions issued to the Women Cell, Dhoke has strictly asked the officials concerned to dispose of every single complaint within one month. “I came to know that the cell takes several months to dispose of complaints pertaining to matrimonial disputes and domestic violence. Now, I have asked the officials to make sure that every complaint is disposed of in a month. In some remote cases, one and a half month will also be acceptable. I want people to get timely justice,” said Dhoke.

About the complaints that counselling team at women cell mints money from disputing parties, he said he would frequently change the private counseling team members to prevent them from indulging in any corrupt practice.

Sources said in the past five months, the women cell received around 2,119 complaints out of which 740 achieved compromise by the way of re-union while 281 persons opted for divorce. Pertinently, the FIR registration ratio is minimal in the cases as in the past five months only 32 FIRs have been registered.

In the past five months, average percentage of the FIR registration stands at 1.5 per cent. Sources said the average percentage of registration of the FIRs in a year stood at 3.41 per cent. To corroborate this claim, women cell records revealed that it received around 3,898 complaints in 2016 of which only 133 complaints were converted to FIRs.
