Although there is a strict ban on the use of pressure horns, private buses operators ferrying passengers to different locations in the city continue flout the rule with impunity. By using pressure horns private bus operators cause a lot of noise pollution.

Besides private bus operators, drivers of Punjab Roadways buses, trucks and even cars have also installed pressure horns on their vehicles. They use pressure horns regularly. It seems that drivers have no fear of law in absence of proper vigil by the traffic police.

During a visit to various places in the city on Monday, drivers of several vehicles, including private buses, were found blowing pressure horns.

“It is not only that private bus operators blow pressure horn to find way through the traffic. Drivers of other vehicles too indulge in blatant violation of this rule. Blowing pressure horn has become a habit of those behind wheels. They use pressure horns unnecessarily,” said Mukesh Kumar a daily commuter.

“The use of pressure horns is completely banned. No one can blow pressure horns. The traffic police have challaned drivers of several vehicles in the past for using pressure horns,” said the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Traffic, Gurdev Singh.

“If anyone is found using pressure horns, a strict action will be taken against him/her,” he added.
