Ludhiana, August 19

After flood-like situation due to swollen Sutlej, Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal has issued orders to close dyeing units temporarily in the city.

Those facing temporary closure are the units located at Bahadur Ke Road, Tajpur Road, Industrial Area A, Moti Nagar, Samarala Chowk to Jalandhar Bypass, and Focal Point.

The orders were issued under the Disaster Management Act 2005. The DC has ordered the Municipal Commissioner and Superintending Engineer of the PPCB to ensure implementation of the orders.

It is required to mention that many dyeing units release used water with high pressure in MC sewers due to which waterlogging in some residential areas is reported.

Sewage plant closed

In the wake of swollen Sutlej River, the Municipal Corporation has shut down its sewage treatment plant at Bhattian village.

According to information, the water, which was released into Sutlej through a four-km long channel from the STP, had started flowing back yesterday.

Executive engineer Ranveer Singh said the STP had been closed for now. He added that they had also reduced the water supply time to avoid extra discharge of water. Sources said the sewers also overflowed in several areas.
