Cricket tourney: Ludhiana beat Jalandhar

Fine all-round performance by Neha Sharma (37 runs and 2 for 19) and Ruchi Kapoor (27 runs and 2 for 7) helped Ludhiana beat Jalandhar by 102 runs in the first match in the Inter-District Women’s Cricket Tournament played at Gandhi Ground, Amritsar.

Ludhiana skipper Ruchi Kapoor won the toss and opted to bat first. In the stipulated 50 overs, Ludhiana scored 193 runs, which included 34 extras.

Opener, Renu made 43 runs with the help of four boundaries and Yamuna chipped in with 16 runs, while Prabhdeep Kaur contributed 17 runs.

For Jalandhar, Sandeep was the pick of bowlers. She claimed four wickets for 28 runs in seven overs while captain Harmanpreet Kaur captured two wickets for 37 runs. Simran Kaur and Neetu grabbed one wicket each.

In reply, Jalandhar’s inning folded at 91 runs in 39.1 overs. Only three batswomen namely Simranjit (14), Sandeep (14) and Shweta (17) could reach the double figure.

For the winners, Ruchi Kapoor, Babbaljit Kaur and Neha Sharma got rid of two players each after conceding 7, 14 and 19 runs, respectively. Palwinder Kaur and Neha Sharma took one wicket each after giving away 17 and 13 runs, respectively.
