Cong’s Joga wins Mutton zone ZP seat

SAMRALA: The Congress won the Mutton Zone seat in the Zila Parishad elections for the Samrala sub-division with a good margin. Congress candidate Jatinder Singh Joga, who is a former Sarpanch and former member of the Block Samiti, defeated Akali Dal (Badal) candidate Barjinder Singh Bablu of Lopon village by 3,315 votes.

The Congress won the Mutton Zone seat in the Zila Parishad elections for the Samrala sub-division with a good margin. Congress candidate Jatinder Singh Joga, who is a former Sarpanch and former member of the Block Samiti, defeated Akali Dal (Badal) candidate Barjinder Singh Bablu of Lopon village by 3,315 votes.

Joga got 15,243 votes, while Akali Dal candidate Lopon got only 11,931 votes. Joga, along with other winning candidates and supporters, organised a march from Malwa College, Bondli. The march was led by Samrala MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon and other party leaders.

In the Neelon Zone, Congress candidate Baljit Kaur defeated Akali Dal candidate Hardeep Kaur by 3,615 votes. Congress candidate secured 14,737 votes while the Akali Dal candidate got only 11,222 votes.

For the Khirnia seat, Congress candidate Karam Singh defeated Akali Dal candidate Gurcharan Singh by 861 votes. Congress candidate got 13,013 votes while the Akali Dal candidate received 12,152 votes.

In the Block Samiti elections, the Congress won eight seats while six seats went to the Akali Dal candidates and one candidate of the Congress had already won unopposed. The Congress will now elect its chairman and vice-chairman as they have the majority in the elections.

There were a total of 15 seats for the Block Samiti. Main candidates of the Congress — Sukhvir Singh Pappi, PA to MLA Samrala, and Ajmer Singh Poorba — won their respective seats.

12 out of 15 seats for Congress in Khanna

Khanna: Congress party swept the Block Samiti elections from Khanna by winning 12 out of 15 seats, while Akali Dal could win only three seats.

The Congress won from Lalheri Zone, Bhamadi, Nasrali, Manak Majra, Khattra, Issru, Kauri, Ghungrali Rajputan, Ikolaha, Malakpur, Libra, and Rajewal, while Akali Dal candidates won from Jatana, Turmari and Kot Sekhon Zones.

In the Lalheri Zila Parishad zone, Congress candidate Harjinder Singh defeated Harpreet Singh of Akali Dal by 2,593 votes. In the Bija zone, Congress candidate Harbans Kaur defeated her rival Jasvir Kaur by 1,024 votes.

Khanna Congress MLA Gurkirat Singh Kotli expressed happiness over the win.

Akalis win three seats in Machhiwara block

Machhiwara: In the Machhiwara Block Samiti elections, the Congress won 13 seats and Akali Dal won only three seats. Twelve of the Congress candidates were declared elected on Saturday, while one candidate had already won unopposed in the Machhiwara Block Samiti, which has total 16 seats. In Panj Garaian zone, Congress candidate Sukhpreet Singh defeated Akali Dal candidate Daljit Singh by 514 votes and Congress candidate Manjit Kaur defeated Akali Dal candidate Kirpal Kaur by 406 votes from the Jatiwal zone. Other Congress candidates won from Hyatpur zone, Machhiwara Kham, Sherpur Bet (unopposed), Behlolpur, Ratipur, Hedon Dhaha, Khirnia , Bharthla, Takhran, Manewal, and Kakrala zone of the Block Samiti. Meanhile, Akali Dal candidates were declared elected from the Chakli Adal zone, Hedon Bet zone and Gahlewal zone.
