Congress leader Neelam Kohli, a resident of Model Town, was booked by the city police for duping some residents on the pretext of providing them allotment letters of flats in Giaspura area.

Before joining the Congress, the accused woman was the district president of the Istri Akali Dal

Complainant Shakuntla Sharma, a resident of Giaspura Road, told the police that accused, who had introduced herself as a senior leader in the party, had given flats in Giaspura to her and two more women Husan Tara and Rekha. She promised them that she would soon provide them the allotment letter and in lieu took Rs26,000 each from them.

“We were living in the flats at the behest of the woman, but had no authority. Now, the administration was asking us to vacate the flats. When we asked the woman to provide us the allotment letter, she refused,” the complainant said.

The complainant had later submitted a complaint with the city police and on their complaint, ADCP-2 conducted an inquiry, in which he found the woman guilty and recommended registration of an FIR. Investigating officer ASI Balwinder Singh said the woman was yet to be arrested.
