Rampant misuse of public property for displaying advertisement material will be done away with soon as the local civic body has initiated the process for auction of sites under the Punjab Municipal Outdoor Advertisement Policy.

Online management of rent branch, strengthening of sewerage system and enhancing income through remunerative solid waste management are among the other priorities of the civic body.

President Municipal Council Suraaj Mohammad claimed that vital decisions to improve the economic position of the body had been taken during regular meeting of councilors and government officials.

Acknowledging the trend of unorganised displaying of advertisement boards in the area, Suraaj Mohammad said it had been unanimously resolved that the auction of advertisement sites within municipal limits would be undertaken by the authorities at the municipal council as the local civic body has been declared a part of cluster consisting Ahmedgarh, Amargarh and Malerkotla.

Perusal of records at the office of the municipal council revealed that the council had adopted the Punjab Municipal Outdoor Advertisement Policy over six months ago. But no site has since been auctioned.

Authorities at office of the Deputy Director Local Bodies Patiala have now advised the local authorities to give consent for auction of proposed advertisement sites through base office at Municipal Council Malerkotla.

The meeting also discussed the provision of converting solid waste into manure after sorting the litter into biodegradable and non-biodegradable elements soon. “The project when becomes functional would solve the problem of dumping of solid waste in open besides fetching handsome income through sale of manure thus produced,” said President Suraaj Mohammad. Mohammad added that the process for procurement of required paraphernalia for online management of rent branch had also been initiated.

Executive Officer Chander Parkash Wadhwa led government officials during the meeting.
