City youth drowns taking selfie at Old Kangra khud

Kangra: A 17-year pilgrim from Ludhiana drowned on Sunday in Banner Khud near Chungi at Old Kangra while taking a selfie.

A 17-year pilgrim from Ludhiana drowned on Sunday in Banner Khud near Chungi at Old Kangra while taking a selfie.

SDM, Kangra, Seshi Pal Negi said a group of eight persons from Ludhiana was on the way to Bajjreshwari temple in connection with Sharwan Ashtami mela. When they reached near Chungi at Old Kangra, they stopped by to have fun near Banner Khud.

One of the pilgrims Deep slipped into the khud when he went close to it to have a selfie. As soon he slipped, it started raining heavily. The boy was washed away by the current. 

The police, fire brigade, Home Guards jawans and local people started a search operation, but in vain.

Many people have drowned despite warning boards having been installed along the khud.
