City students skate their way to glory

LUDHIANA: City skaters, who are taking part in the ongoing 63rd National School Games, being held at Shivganga Roller Skating Club, Belgaum, in Karnataka from December 10 to 13, have finished among medal winners during the first two-day proceedings.

City skaters, who are taking part in the ongoing 63rd National School Games, being held at Shivganga Roller Skating Club, Belgaum, in Karnataka from December 10 to 13, have finished among medal winners during the first two-day proceedings.

Sources said the skaters from Ludhiana have done the state proud by securing medals.

Tehdil Kaur Pannu, Jaap Kaur, Tejvir Singh and Jhanvi Sharma, who practice at the Leisure Valley Skating Rink in Sarabha Nagar, have hogged the limelight at Belgaum. Their coach is JS Dhaliwal.

Tehdil, a student of Class XI at Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, secured a gold medal in the under-17 category on the opening day of the competition. She annexed top honours in the 5-km road race to stamp her supremacy. Tehdil added another gold medal in her kitty the following day when she finished well ahead of others in the 500-m race to win second individual gold medal.

In the last edition of this competition, Tehdil had won three gold medals, besides winning title of the best skater of the tournament.

Jaap Kaur, a student of Guru Nanak Public School in Sarabha Nagar, bagged the silver medal (under-19 group) in 5-km road race, while Tejvir Singh, a student of Gurjranwala Guru Nanak Public School in Civil Lines, fetched the silver medal in 5-km road race, in addition to a bronze in the 500-metre race to score a brace in the under-19 category.

Another skater from the city, Jhanvi Sharma, a student of Delhi Public School, finished as first runner-up in the 3-km road race and pocketed the silver medal.

Gujranwala Guru Nanak Public School Principal Karnail Singh appreciated Tejvir Singh on bringing fame to the school by winning two medals in the games.
