Despite the fact that it rained Friday evening, several parts of the city, including Chandigarh Road near Sector 32, Samrala Chowk and Ferozepur Road near Aggar Nagar, were waterlogged on Saturday, exposing the ineffective drainage of the city.
There is no storm water drainage network in most parts of the city. Most roads get waterlogged within minutes of a downpour.
On several parts of Chandigarh Road, water remains accumulated for days. The vacant area along the road has been waterlogged for the past few days. These have already become ready pools for mosquito breeding, thus making the areas around prone to dengue, chikangunia, etc.
Residents are incensed at such poor conditions in the city. “The MC must check these areas of its own accord. But on the contrary, even complaints are going unheard,” said Inder, a resident of Sector 32.
Overflowing sewers compound the problem. “Passing through roads becomes an ordeal because of stink even after rain has stopped,” said Pawandeep, a commuter.
“The administration had shown the dreams of making Ludhiana a smart city. It should first make it a ‘livable’ place,” said Rupinder, a resident of Rajguru Nagar.
