City athlete Karamveer wins 1,500-m race

LUDHIANA: Karamveer Kaur of Ludhiana annexed gold medal to open the account for hosts, while athletes from Patiala, Kapurthala, Roop Nagar and Gurdaspur clinched one title each on the inaugural day of the 63rd Punjab State Inter-District Athletics Meet for boys and girls (U-17).

Karamveer Kaur of Ludhiana annexed gold medal to open the account for hosts, while athletes from Patiala, Kapurthala, Roop Nagar and Gurdaspur clinched one title each on the inaugural day of the 63rd Punjab State Inter-District Athletics Meet for boys and girls (U-17).

The meet was organised by the Punjab Education Department at Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

Karamveer Kaur finished ahead of others to bag gold medal in the 1,500-metre race. Reena of Taran Tarn and Simranjit Kaur of Bathinda followed her at the second and third place, respectively, while Arshdeep Kaur from Sangrur secured the fourth position.

Dharm Singh, Deputy Director, Sports, Punjab, inaugurated the meet in which around 900 participants from different schools are taking part. Rupinder Singh Ravi, State Organiser; Swaranjit Singh, District Education Officer; and Vikramjeet Bhanot, Assistant Education Officer, Ludhiana, were present.
