In a major twist of political development at local town, former SAD legislator, Iqbal Singh Jhoondan, persuaded councilors to pull out from active administration in the civic body.

Appealing her associates in the council to continue their support in development of the town, President Paramjit Kaur Jassal, announced to resign from her post in presence of councilors led by Jhoondan.

Paramjit Kaur Jassal mentioned domestic reasons for stepping down from her post in the resignation submitted to the executive officer, Gurdip Singh Bhogal. However, she did not deny that non-cooperation by some councilors following change in regime in the state government; was also a one of the major factors.

Jassal said the budget for the ensuing financial year could not be approved due to non-cooperation by councilors owing allegiance to the Congress party.

Executive officer Gurdip Singh Bhogal said the resignation of the president would be forwarded to Sangrur Deputy Commissioner in due course of time and process for re-election of the new chief would be started after the post is declared vacant by the government.
