Ludhiana, July 20

Chandigarh Road turns dark after evening as street lights on the road at several stretches are not working, making the busy road prone to accidents.

From Cheema Chowk to Samrala Chowk there are no street lights. Commuters and residents drive their vehicles turning high beam on. Similarly, Chandigarh Road and GT Road also need installation of street lights.

Despite being a busy road, this area has many industrial units. “This is the road that leads to Chandigarh, and it remains busy almost 24 hours a day. Streetlights are not working on the road for a long time. However, the ones which are working they are not enough to illuminate the area,” said a resident, Amneet Singh.

Even labourers fear of a mishap, because they walk or return on their bicycles late in the evening after work. “Often speeding vehicles whizz past us. Several times there are narrow escapes,” said Ramesh, who works in a factory on Metro Road.

MC Commissioner Kanwalpreet Kaur Brar who recently took over said that she was yet to review streetlights in the city and would get these fixed.
