Car driver runs over infant sleeping on roadside

A one-year-old infant was crushed to death under the wheels of a car at Dugri on Pakhowal Road on Sunday morning. The boy was sleeping on the roadside.

The deceased has been identified as Devia. The car driver fled the scene. The police have identified the car driver as Surinder Singh, a resident of BRS Nagar. He is yet to be arrested.

On a complaint of the deceased’s father, Balram, a case under Section 304 A, IPC, was registered. The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. ASI Jagtar Singh said the family hailed from Karnal. The boy’s mother had come to see her mother who lives in shanties on Pakhowal Road. Kanta left her sleeping son on the roadside and went to answer nature’s call. When she returned, she was shocked to see the mutilated body of her son. The ASI said the police had identified the car driver and he would be nabbed soon.
