Ludhiana: A man had a narrow escape after his car suddenly caught fire in the Feroze Gandhi area on Saturday. Gurinder Singh said he had gone to meet his friend in Feroze Gandhi market on his Eon car. "I was waiting for my friend to come, when suddenly I was told by one of the passersby that smoke was billowing out from my car's bonnet. Before I could go and check, the car's engine was on fire. People, however, managed to douse the flame by pouring water and anti-fire spray on the engine. The car owner had a miraculous escape.

Two drug peddlers held  

A team of Anti-Narcotics Cell arrested two drug peddlers and recovered 8-gram heroin from them. The accused have been identified as Gaurav Kumar of Daresi and Anmol of Peeru Banda area. The police said a routine naka was laid near Ravidas Chowk and on suspicion two people were stopped for checking. During search, drugs were recovered from them.

3 arrested with 74 liquor cases

The Anti-Narcotics cell arrested three liquor peddlers and recovered 74 cases of liquor from them. The accused have been identified as Monu of New Punjabi Bagh, Ajaib Singh of Shera Colony and Satinder Singh of Shera Colony. They were arrested from Hawaas Road. The police have launched further probe in the matter.

Clash at masjid: 15 booked 

The Jodhewal police have booked 14 persons in Friday's clash incident at a masjid on Rahon Road. They have been identified as Bablu, Molana Farooq, Habib Rehman, Atiq Rehman, Zil Rehman, Masih Rehman, Basih Ahmed, Jayeed Ahmed, Mohammad Naseeb, Nafisa and five unidentified persons. A case was registered on the complaint of Mohammad Iftikar, a resident of Vardhman. The complainant alleged that when their group handed over the donation to the committee on Friday, one of the committee members Bablu gave all the money to Moulvi Farooq. When they questioned the Moulvi, they attacked them. The police are conducting raids to arrest the accused. TNS
