Boys’ hostel at skill development centre soon: DC

LUDHIANA: Expressing satisfaction over the results produced by the Multi Skill Development Centre, which started functioning in March this year, Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said a hostel facility would also be provided to boys as the under-construction building would be completed soon.

Expressing satisfaction over the results produced by the Multi Skill Development Centre, which started functioning in March this year, Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said a hostel facility would also be provided to boys as the under-construction building would be completed soon.

So far more than 110 students trained from the centre have got jobs in reputed companies.

He said the Punjab Government would also assist students in starting their own units by providing soft loans. Appealing to students to register themselves at the skill centre, the Deputy Commissioner said students would get a certificate from the National Skill Development Corporation of India after successfully completing their training period.

The Multi Skill Development Centre in Ludhiana provides the much needed skills to trainees, especially to those belonging to the rural belt of the district, he said. The centre was started for students from the city, but after prompt response from the youth from villages, the institution started three courses for rural students as well.

Swathi Thakur, who supervises the courses, and trainer Jatinderpal Singh said students were being trained for self-employment. Not only this, they get Rs109 as travel allowance on a daily basis as well. At present, 85 students are under training for courses including customer care executive, computer numerical control and sewing machine operator. More courses such as assistant fashion designer, computer accounting, technician, machine operator, trainer, industrial trainer are also being run here.
