Officials of a world-renowned automobile company, Bavarian Motor Works (BMW), today donated a working model of their advanced S5 engine to Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College for research and development purposes. The engine is used in the S5 model of the BMW apart from Rolls Royce and Mini Cooper.
According to Prof Arvind Dhingra from the college, it is the first time the top automobile company has donated an engine to a college in Punjab. The gesture had only been extended to the IITs before that. It is a good development as the students would dissemble and assemble the engine to learn about its working. Professor Dhingra said the company would also benefit from this exercise as the students would make technical suggestions to improve its performance, efficiency, etc.
Students doing a research on the engine would become ready engineers for the BMW and other automobile companies.
“The BMW is a big name in the automobile sector for its advanced technology and engines. Seeing the working of the engine would be a great educational experience for us. Besides, we will give some good inputs to the company for improving its performance,” said one of the students.
“It is a win-win situation for the students as well as the company. All automobile companies should do this exercise because looking at things from fresh perspectives of students can bring about fresh innovations,” said Professor Dhingra.
