Blood bank inaugurated

Now, people from Shimlapuri, Lohara and Gill Road, in need of blood, will not have to go far as a blood bank was inaugurated today at Prolife Superspeciality Hospital in Gill village. Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu inaugurated the blood bank and thanked the director of the hospital, Dr HS Jolly, for establishing a blood bank.Dr Jolly said there was no blood bank in Gill Road and surrounding areas. Therefore, for the patients, who were admitted in nursing homes and hospitals in these areas, had to travel far to arrange blood.

Patient operated on for free

A 32-yr-old female patient from came from Bihar, Patna, who was suffering from abdominal pain from past one year, was operated free-of-cost at the Civil Hospital today. Telling about the patient, Dr Varun Saggar and Dr Milan Verma said the woman had come to Ludhiana three months ago and was diagnosed with a large ovarian tumour. The patient could not afford the treatment at any hospital and was thus helped by the Ek Noor Seva Kendra, who guided them to Civil Hospital. Dr Varun Saggar and Dr Milan Verma operated on her and removed the tumour. All the facilities and treatment at the hospital were provided at zero cost to the patient.

DMCH gets 3-D mapping system

Hero DMC Heart Institute at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) has acquired the latest 3-D mapping system for management of complex cardiac arrhythmia (irregular heart beat). Patients with fast heart rhythm abnormalities can be managed with medicines and when it becomes life-threatening, it needs treatment in an electrophysiology lab. DMCH is one of the few centres in North India where this form of treatment is available.

Free artificial limbs distributed

The Bharat Vikas Parishad Charitable Trust, Punjab, organised the 1,347th free artificial limbs distribution camp at Viklang Sahayta Kender, Rishi Nagar. Artificial limbs, calipers, crutches, tricycle and hearing-aids were given to as many as 27 physically challenged persons. Ajay Sharma, finance secretary, said the Trust had helped more than 55,417 physically handicapped in the past at the camps.
