The Bharatiya Janata Partytook out a ‘Tiranga’ yatra at the Janakpuri area here on Monday. The event was attended by district unit acting president Sat Pal Saggar, vice-president Parminder Mehta, state general secretary Jiwan Gupta and other party functionaries. The yatra passed through Sufian Chowk, CMC Chowk, Division No 3 Chowk, Neem Wala Chowk, Subhani Building, Shahpur Road and concluded at the Kuka Martyrs Memorial.

Pearl scam victims to stage dharna

‘Insaf di Awaz’, the NGO fighting to seek justice for the victims of the Pearl Group scam and other chit fund/finance companies, will lead a protest at the Grain Market here on August 17 and 18. Body president Mohinderpal Singh told the media that even though the Supreme Court had set up a committee to formulate a mechanism for the refund of thousands of crores, but none of the investors had so far received any money. He accused the previous governments of patronising Pearl Group and making people invest in fake schemes of the company.

Sahitya Akademi mourns singer’s death 

Office-bearers and members of the Punjabi Sahitya Academy expressed grief over the demise of noted Punjabi singer and lyricist Daljit Singh Dardi. Academy president Dr Sukhdev Singh, senior vice-president Dr Anoop Singh and general secretary Surjit Singh remembered Dardi as a writer and singer of substance. 

UCNI gets new moderator 

Rev. Newton has been appointed as the Moderator, Punjab Synod, United Church of Northern India (UCNI), during a meeting held recently, under the chairmanship of Rev. Ravi Chhatriya, Moderator, General Assembly United Church of Northern India. BM Fredrick, UCNI Secretary, said Newton was a renowned educationalist. Rev. Newton said all members and office-bearers of this organisation and Christians as a whole should work together to uplift the community.
