Two bike-borne robbers targeted a merchant navy man and his family at Books Market in the Kotwali area on Sunday morning and looted gold ornaments and cash.

Gaurav Sharma (32), a resident of Pindi Street, said he worked as a motor man in merchant navy with a company in Singapore. Around 4.30 am, he, along with his wife Jhanvi Sharma, two children Jiya Sharma and Garg Sharma, reached the local railway station from Faridabad.

“I hired a rickshaw from railway station. The moment I reached Books Market around 4.45 am, two bike-borne persons, who were wearing masks, paralleled their bike with the rickshaw. They threatened us with a sharp weapon and asked us to deliver cash and valuables. Since I was with my children, I did not mess up with the bikers. They took away a diamond ring of my wife, one mobile phone, Rs 9,500 in cash, a gold ring and a purse containing important documents,” he said.

Sharma said he reached the Kotwali police station and lodged a complaint. He alleged there was no ASI-rank officer present at the police station. No policeman visited the spot to trace the snatchers. A munshi (clerk) received our complaint.

Victim fails to get through Helpline 100

“I also tried the police control room toll-free number ‘100’ but despite repeated attempts, call did not get through. I then had to reach the police station for lodging my complaint,” the victim alleged.

Sharma said the number plate of the bike was covered with cloth. He could notice that one of the robbers was wearing a turban, he added.
