Ludhiana: A resident of Bhattiyan village was booked under Section 379 of the IPC and 21 of the Mines Act. Accused Sukhvir Singh was booked on the basis of complaint made by a cop Jagdev Singh. The complainant said he, along with the police party, was patrolling near the T-Point at Bajra village, when they received an information that the accused, after stealing and loading sand in a tipper, was coming to Bajra side from Dheri village. On seeing the police, he fled from the scene, leaving behind the tipper. A case was registered at Meharban police station.

5-kg poppy husk recovered

A complaint was registered against Chinda, a resident of Hara Colony, near Reru Sahib Gurdwara under Sections 15/61/85 of the NDPS Act at Sahnewal police station. Cop Ram Pal said he was on duty near Nandpur Sahnewal on June 25 around 3 pm, when he saw the accused walking alone from Ludhiana side. He stopped the accused on suspicion and checked his bag. After checking, he recovered 5-kg poppy husk from his bag.

Awareness camp against drug menace

An awareness camp was held by the Police Saanjh Kendra, Atam Nagar, under the guidance of Dr Tarlochan Singh and Inspector Balwinder Singh at Kiran Hospital today to make the people aware of the ill-effects of drugs. Balwinder Singh said such awareness programmes were being organised in all saanjh kendras to raise awareness against the menace of drugs. The organisers motivated the youth to shun drugs. The police asked the youth to adopt the path shown by Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh for the welfare of the country and humanity. The inmates of the hospital were also made aware about the ill-effects of drugs.
