Prerna, Siya set up title clash

LUDHIANA: Prerna Dawar of Kundan Vidya Mandir and Siya Sharma overpowered their opponents to set up the title clash in the women’s singles category on the second and penultimate day of the Ludhiana District Senior and Masters Badminton Tournament being held at Shastri Hall, near Guru Nanak Stadium, here on Sunday.

Prerna Dawar of Kundan Vidya Mandir and Siya Sharma overpowered their opponents to set up the title clash in the women’s singles category on the second and penultimate day of the Ludhiana District Senior and Masters Badminton Tournament being held at Shastri Hall, near Guru Nanak Stadium, here on Sunday.

In the semi-finals, Prerna Dawar, after initial hiccups, managed to edge out her rival Manroop Kaur (21-18, 21-19) whereas Siya Sharma recorded an easy win (21-11, 21-6) over Maqnil Mahajan to storm into the final.

In the men’s singles group, Lakhwinder Singh, Vakul Sharma, Mitaksh Gandhi and Puneetinder Singh wrapped up their respective matches to complete the semi-final line-up.

Men’s single (quarter-finals)

Lakhwinder Singh beat Swastik Rawal 21-13, 21-14; Vakul Sharma beat Rawel Singh 21-14, 21-19; Mitaksh Gandhi beat Hakam Singh 18-21, 21-19, 24-22 and Puneetinder Singh beat Vishwas Suri 21-14, 21-12.

Masters 35+ (men doubles semi-finals)

Suresh Sood and Gurjot Singh beat Dhruv Ladia and Jaswinder Singh 21-16, 21-16; Lakhwinder Singh and Pranav Goel beat Munish Thapar and Nitin Sofat 21-8, 21-9.

Masters 40+ (men singles semi-finals)

Onkarjit Singh beat Naman Jain 21-12, 16-21 and 21-11; Amrik Singh beat Sunil Goel 21-17, 20-22 and 21-14.

Women’s singles (semi-finals)

Prerna Dawar beat Manroop Kaur 21-18, 21-9 and Siya Sharma beat Maqnil Mahajan 21-11, 21-6.

Men doubles (quarter-finals)

Lakshay Singla and Mitaksh Gandhi beat Suresh Sood and Raghav Aggarwal 21-17, 21-19; Hakam Singh and Rawel Singh beat Raj Kumar and Anuj Dhand 21-16, 16-21, 21-18; Puneetinder Singh and Vakul Sharma beat Sunnidhya Nautiyal and Sehaj Bhardwaj 25-27, 21-16, 21-12; Lakhwinder Singh and Pranav Goel beat Sachin Mourya and Gurpreet Singh 21-18, 21-14.

Masters 40+ (men doubles)

Awtar Singh and Sunil Goel beat Vivek Shelly and Vinod Kumar 21-10, 21-10; Anand Kumar and Vikas Kharbanda beat Davinder and Surinder Pal 21-10, 21-16; Ravi and Sanjeev Gupta beat Sarabjit Singh and Inder Pal Singh 21-18, 25-23; Vikas and Jagdeep Singh beat Munish Handa and Nitin Sharma 21-10, 19-21, 22-20.
